Covid on a declining trend in India

The active cases in the country are now less than 4000. In the last 24 hours, there were 267 new infections taking the total tally of active cases to 3736, according to latest data from the Union health ministry. With two deaths occurring, the total death toll has climbed up to 5,31,874. Total Covid cases in the country are nearly 4.5 crore. The recovery rate is 98.81%. Over 220.66 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the country till now… (Source: Mid Day, June 2, 2023).

 

Post CDC conference Covid outbreak toll increases to nearly 200

The Covid case toll after the 2023 Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Conference of the CDC, which was held in Atlanta in April is increasing. At least 181 people who attended the conference reported testing positive for Covid-19. However, none of the positive cases required hospitalization and almost all participants had taken at least one dose of the Covid vaccine. 70% of those who attended the conference in person reported not wearing a mask in a survey… (Source: IDSE, May 30, 2023). 

 

Association of sleep and risk of long Covid

A healthy sleep reduces the risk of long Covid. Infected women from the Nurses Health Study II who scored the highest (5) (most healthy) on the sleep score before the pandemic lowered their risk of long Covid by 30% compared to those who scored 0 or 1 (least healthy). A good quality sleep during the pandemic also reduced the risk of long Covid… (Source: JAMA Network Open, May 30, 2023).

 

No risk of spontaneous abortion with Covid booster vaccine in early pregnancy

Administration of monovalent mRNA Covid-19 booster vaccine before 20 weeks of gestation did not increase the risk of spontaneous miscarriage in an analysis of more than 100,000 pregnancies at 6 to 19 weeks suggesting the safety of booster vaccination in pregnant women… (Source: JAMA Network Open, May 19, 2023).
